Matchmaker, Matchmaker, Make Me A Match

There was a photo booth at the party.  The top picture is us spitting on our fingers, like Golde does in the movie.  I think it is a superstitious thing.  Isn't our little Yente the cutest little old lady?  When she was born we actually used to call her our "little luahine" or our "little old lady."
This summer we went to a friend's costume party.  We were told that the theme was "Hollywood."  I couldn't think of any famous actors/actresses that we wanted to dress up as for the party, so I thought it would be fun to dress up as characters from my favorite movie Fiddler on the Roof.  Actually I told Dave months earlier that if we were ever going to go to a costume party, I wanted to go as Golde and Tevye.  How do I make a Polynesian look like a Russian Jewish woman and Dave like a Jewish milkman?  I didn't really know, but that wasn't the real challenge.  Who was Chrissy going to be?  The answer didn't come to me until a day or two before the party.  Of course! She would make a perfect Yente, the old lady gossip/matchmaker.  Chrissy wore a wig, and a kerchief over it.  She was actually good and kept it on all night.  I bought her dollar old lady glasses from the thrift store.  I kind of wish that I didn't pop the lenses out because when she first put the glasses on in the store, I could not stop laughing.  Another customer started laughing at Chrissy, too and said she was too cute. Chrissy also wore a long "old lady dress" for her size and a shawl.

If you haven't seen the 1971 film adaptation, check it out at your library.  They probably have it for free or a dollar to check out.  I did NOT like this movie as a child/youth.  I always changed the channel when it came on t.v.  Now, after serving a mission and living for a few years in a Polynesian family, serving in an LDS young single adult ward (congregation) and trying to stick to traditional morals with my LDS faith, I LOVE IT! It is funny, endearing and oh how I can relate.  Don't tell my dad, but I kind of think he is like Tevye.  Anyhow, here are our pics from the party.  As luck would have it, we were the only ones, aside from my sister, Lela -who dressed up as a Bollywood actress with sari and all, who dressed up in costume.  It was a big Polynesian family gathering and I thought it was HILARIOUS that Dave, Chrissy, Lela and I were the only ones dressed up.  Dave did not find as much humor in this predicament as I did.  I think that made me laugh even harder.  Sorry, honey!
